We can now leave the shores of Lake Balaton and Lake Orfű behind, and head back to the school desks, because, however sad it may be, summer is slowly coming to an end. We hope everyone made it to the festivals they had planned, and that the freshmen survived Freshers’ Camp in one piece. But the parties are not over yet: September offers plenty of events for those eager to join in, and we have picked out a few for you.
Faculty Days – 1–5 September This year the academic year kicks off with an exciting first week, as Faculty Days and Project Week bring a wide range of engaging events to the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It is a great opportunity for freshers to bond more with one another and to learn plenty about their field of study. Naturally, upper-year students are also presented with excellent opportunities, such as a variety of microcredit courses to choose from. That is why everyone should eagerly browse the programme booklet: there will be different workshops and film screenings for those interested, and even the band Balkán VIP will perform, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. UP Welcome Fest – 12–13 September We continue our event guide with even more music, as it is time for the UP Welcome Fest. If anyone feels that their summer festival dose still was not enough, they should definitely mark this September weekend in their calendar. The Welcome Fest is a huge party every year, with top performers and DJs taking the stage, representing many different genres, so there is no excuse to miss it. Just to mention two rising stars among this year’s line-up: Beton.Hofi and Pogány Induló are both coming to Pécs to give us a powerful start to the academic year. Grab your discounted UP tickets, and see you in the crowd! Photo: PTE EHÖK Facebook page Szenes Opening – 1 September Everyone will be familiar with it, and for those who do not know it yet, they soon will: Mondays mean Szenes! Everyone’s favourite club is finally kicking off its new season and will be waiting for you on the first Monday of September. Two concerts and an afterparty await those who are ready to let loose, all in the unmistakable Szenes atmosphere. For freshers it is almost a must, as it is a great chance to meet new people and for the Szenes crew to introduce themselves as well. Of course, we will be sure to run into the veterans there – and if you cannot make it, no worries, as there will be plenty of events at Szenes during Faculty Days. PécsLIT Festival – 8–13 September We will step a little outside the university walls and head straight to the very own literary festival of Pécs, PécsLIT. Literature lovers will not be bored this year either, as the organisers have once again prepared plenty of exciting events, for example at the Kodály Centre and in several libraries. Hungarian writers and poets such as Tamás Fábián, János Háy, István Kemény, and Zsófi Kemény will be making appearances during these few days. The programme ranges from book launches to exhibitions and even music events. Anyone can easily find an engaging talk or reading, so even those who have not previously been part of the literary scene are encouraged to explore.
