Are you still unsure about how you should spend the cold winter days? In this article, we recommend some events and activities organised in Pécs which might help you recharge your batteries. Whether you participate alone or with friends, these programmes are fun either way.
Our first must-try activity is ice skating: in Pécs, the ice rink (Veress Endre Street 8, approachable by bus lines 4, 4Y, 104, 104A, and 104E) has been open since 8th November, and its long opening hours allow you to skate even in the early morning or evening. You do not need to own ice skates since you can borrow a pair there. Or do you prefer something less hectic? Until 24th December, the craft fair in Széchenyi Square awaits the visitors with handmade products, mulled wine and light painting – different Christmas-themed drawings by children are projected on the wall of the Mosque to enlighten the square even more. You can also attend concerts of different genres, like rock or classical music, and admire a light dance show on the night of the winter solstice. Moreover, every Saturday, a priest or pastor of some churches in Pécs lights a candle on the city’s Advent wreath. Photo by: Henrietta Nagy Maybe you are considering an indoor event? In this case, the National Theatre of Pécs offers you a great festive environment: although its English-language repertoire is fairly limited, the ornate, gilded interior of the theatre still provides an exquisite and timeless experience, especially during Christmas. Keep an eye on the repertoire to see whether they introduced an English-language show – if they do not, we still encourage you to attend Hungarian performances, because the language of the theatre is universal. But if you favour less traditional theatres, Cinema Apolló awaits you with excellent screenings. This art cinema offers a unique experience, since you can watch almost every film in its original language, and Hungarian films often come with English subtitles. With this small bunch of ideas, we hope we could help you find the right events and activities. As our final advice: when the colder season arrives, enjoy the thrilling fusion of the hot chocolate and chilly air, spend time with your loved ones, and discover the little wonders: because they all contribute to a truly memorable winter.
