Every change is hard, yet inevitable. Moving to a new city is tough, especially in a new country. Since a lot of you might feel similarly when moving to Pécs, it is comforting to know you are in the same boat with the people around you. Perhaps you have already seen most of Pécs, but there still might be some parts that you have never been to before. In this article, we offer tips and recommend some places to those of you who have just started exploring the city.

First of all,

do not fear to ask questions!

All right, it might be evident for some of you, but it is still important to know that you can ask mentors (and upper-class students as well) about anything. They do not make a big fuss about it, since they are there to help you. There are some excellent programs organised at the university as well, in which you should participate.

It is worth following the various social media pages of the faculty,

since you can obtain information and dates concerning forthcoming events.

Our second tip for you is to find some cosy cafés or bistros, where you can have a chat with your friends. We would like to recommend two fantastic bars, Csinos and Nappali, where you will definitely have a great time. Affordable prices, ideal location (within walking distance of Széchenyi Square), and pleasant environment – this is what we love about them the most. Moreover, Széchenyi Square often hosts wonderful concerts, free of charge – it would be a pity to miss them. The captivating atmosphere of the square makes our evenings even more enjoyable. When someone mentions Pécs, the Széchenyi Square immediately comes to mind.

Thirdly, we would like to suggest some wallet-friendly restaurants, such as Pacsirta Restaurant at the BTK-TTK campus, near the main hall – the prices are reasonable, and the meals are delicious as well. Regarding the location, Paulus is also a great choice. Although the Greek Stavros restaurant is further away from the campus, it is still within easy distance, and it offers excellent gyros and souvlaki. We have already tried all these restaurants, so we can speak from first-hand experience.

Finally, pay a visit to the Szenes Club! Szenes made a deep impression on us, not to mention the concerts of our favourite bands, who sometimes perform here. It is a great place for developing friendships and having meaningful conversations. Besides enjoying your academic lives, explore the great wonders of Pécs – so set forth on this epic voyage of discovery, and experience the Hungarian way of life here!
